Pancakes With Abs!

There were three things we were looking for in Brugges, Belgium.  Beer!  Chocolate!  And Waffles! We found all three at Lizzie's Wafels - Extra Large Homemade Waffles.  My mouth was watering as soon as I stepped foot in this place.

Food and culture are inseparably related.  You can't go to Belgium without having a waffle.  Just like you can't go to Philadelphia and not eat a cheesesteak!  A Belgian waffle is supposed to be airy, fluffy, and eaten with the hands.  We topped ours today with chocolate and ice cream!

Waffles were first made in the Middle Ages and were sold as crispy and rich street-side snacks by vendors outside Churches in Belgium. The Brussels waffle is what is most commonly known as the Belgian waffle in the United States. It was introduced to the USA at the 1964 World’s Fair in NYC by Maurice Vermersch as the ‘Belgian Waffle’, since most Americans did not even know where Brussels was.  We do!  And we're enjoying every single bite of our waffles today!
