For Pete's Sake!

I remember when my grandmother would get really frustrated (usually at my grandfather!) and she would stomp around saying, "Awwww.....for Pete's sake!" This always warranted a little smile or giggle from everyone around her....and leave me wondering who the hell was Pete?

Maybe I'd find out today!

St. Petersburg, Russia was founded by Peter the Great in 1703 and remains Russia's cultural center. As impressive as everything was in Moscow yesterday....St. Pete's is even more stunning and inviting to tourists.  Fine-tuned by Peter’s successors, who employed a host of European architects to add fabulous palaces and cathedrals to the city’s layout, St Petersburg grew to become the showcase capital and Russia’s first great, modern city, a status it has retained despite the capital moving back to Moscow following the revolution.

Throughout the day we visited several different attractions - St. Isaac's Cathedral, Catherine Palace and Park, Peter and Paul Fortress, and the Church on the Spilt Blood.  Our city tour drove us past most of the other major sites including the Hermitage Museum, Kazan Cathedral, and Palace Square.

The entire city of St. Petersburg is picture-worthy!  It's nearly impossible to blog about everything we saw today.  But I'm pretty sure none of you have ever seen the Golden Arches quite like this!

There was even a sighting of Donald Trump!  And I couldn't resist buying my first (and only!) silly souvenir of this trip.  Matryoshka dolls, or Russian nesting dolls, are quite popular over here.  It goes without saying that as soon as I spotted this.....I was bringing one home!  :)
